This may be the first time you've actually been asked what you believe, rather than told. So many people simply believe what a pastor, priest, or reverend says without ever searching the Scriptures to prove it true. At Matheteuo, the number one thing we want you to do is search the Scriptures daily, the way the believers in Berea did in Acts 17:11, described as "more fair minded" because they received the word and then checked it for themselves. So before you read what we believe below, ask yourself how you came to your own biblical conclusions. We welcome every question you bring.

Statement of Faith

What We Believe.

The Bible was written by more than 40 authors across a thousand years, and every part of it, Old Testament and New, points to one story: Christ. It's backed by over 25,000 manuscripts and is, as Scripture itself says, God-breathed: written by men, but inspired by God. We believe it is fully trustworthy, reliable, and just as relevant today as when it was written.
God is one eternal, uncreated being who exists as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Not three gods, and not one person wearing three different masks, but one God in three distinct persons. The Son was sent to redeem the world and die for sin. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin and draws people into salvation.
Jesus Christ is God the Son, fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, was born of a virgin, and died on the cross as payment for the sins of all people, just as John 1 and Philippians 2 describe. He rose bodily from the dead, ascended to the Father, and will return again in power and glory, exactly as promised in Acts 1:9-11.
The Holy Spirit is fully God, not a force or a feeling. He is present in the world to convict people of sin and draw them toward Christ, and the moment a person is saved, He comes to live within them, teaching, guiding, and empowering the Christian life from the inside out, per John 16 and Ephesians 5:18.
God created humanity in His image, and it was good, until Adam and Eve were deceived and sin entered the world. Every person born since carries that same sinful nature. The Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory, and left on our own, we're spiritually dead. We believe every person needs Jesus Christ to make them alive.
You can know, with real confidence, where you'll spend eternity. Salvation happens when a person recognizes their need for a savior, is convicted by the Holy Spirit, calls out to Jesus Christ, and repents, meaning turns away from sin and turns toward Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 is clear that this is a gift received by faith alone, not earned through works, religious acts, or church membership.
Once you belong to Christ, you cannot lose your salvation. Jesus said that of all the Father has given Him, He has lost none. A believer can wander or go through seasons of struggling to live for God, what the Bible calls backsliding, but Ephesians teaches that you're sealed until the day of redemption. If that's where you find yourself, this is a standing invitation to come back today.
We believe every believer in Jesus Christ is called to be baptized in water as a public declaration of faith, identifying with His death, burial, and resurrection, following the pattern set in Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:38, and Romans 6:4-5. Baptism does not save. It is the outward sign of an inward decision already made.
We take communion once a month, on the fourth Sunday night, and dedicate that entire service to prayer and communion together. Following 1 Corinthians 11, we remember Christ's broken body and shed blood, His pain and His sacrifice, and use that night to reflect, reset, and recommit our lives to Him afresh.
We believe the spiritual gifts described in Scripture are real and active today. They're given to build up the church, not to draw attention to any one individual. Discovering your gifts and learning to use them is often where your faith really begins to grow, and we want to help you find yours.
Acts 2:42 shapes how we do church: devoted to the apostles' teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer, done together, not in isolation. Fast-paced modern life pulls people toward doing everything alone. We believe the Bible calls us into a deliberate, shared life instead, and that's where real spiritual growth happens.
Every Christian is commissioned to share their faith, not just pastors. We understand it's uncomfortable, especially if you're naturally quiet or unsure what to say. God's job is to save people; our job is to tell them. We evangelize weekly as a church and invite you to come watch, learn, and grow into it alongside us.
We don't pass a plate, there's no bucket, and there's no required weekly amount. Tithing is an Old Testament concept, and 2 Corinthians 9 calls believers to cheerful giving instead. You'll always know where your gift goes: first to real needs within our community, then to keeping the lights on, never to fund a leadership lifestyle above the people it serves.
Christ is coming back, and we live like it could be within the hour. Based on 1 Thessalonians 4, we believe this begins with the rapture of the church, when believers are caught up to meet Him. It's meant to be a comfort to hold onto, not something to fear.
As real as heaven is, we believe hell is too, and Satan is a real enemy who works to deceive people into thinking otherwise. We don't teach this to scare anyone. 2 Peter 3 says God wishes for none to perish but all to come to eternal life, and that's exactly why this matters enough to talk about honestly.
